Conditions of Borrowing
When you become a member of the library you agree to observe the following conditions of borrowing:
- The library service reserves the right to limit the borrowing of any borrower or cancel his/her membership of the library service if such action is deemed necessary by them.
- The Borrower shall undertake to keep borrowed items in good condition when they are in his/her possession.
- If any item is lost or damaged the Borrower/Guarantor shall be held responsible for recompensing the library service for that loss or the cost of damage done to that item, as assessed by the library service.
- The Borrower shall be liable to pay any charges he/she incurs on items borrowed by them (eg Overdue charges, Inter-Library loans, Lost or Damaged Membership cards).
- Borrowers will be limited to a maximum of £20 accrued charges for adults; £5 accrued charges for juniors.
- The Borrower shall be held responsible for all items borrowed whether by him/her or by someone else in the Borrowers name, with the Membership Card. A parent or guardian shall be liable for any items borrowed by Junior Borrowers (ie anyone aged 0 -15 years of age ).
- Items can be renewed up to a maximum of 3 renewals, seen or unseen. If the item is required for a longer period it must be returned to the branch, discharged and issued as a new loan. This is to ensure the item is seen by the library staff and to still be in good condition. Normal overdue charges will accrue until the borrower either renews the item or returns it to the library.
- Exceptions: Where there is an active reservation on any item, the renewal period will be for one week only and no further renewals allowed.
- The loss of any Membership Card must immediately be reported to the library service. Replacements will be charged at current rate.
- The Borrower shall on borrowing any item inspect it for damage and shall report any damage found to the library staff. Any damage found or damage that occurs whilst the items are on loan shall be reported to library staff when the items are returned.
- The Borrower shall ensure that any equipment used for playing library multi-media material is suitable and is in such condition not to cause damage.
- These conditions of borrowing may be changed from time to time by the library service.
