Our Projects
Masons' Marks Project
The Archaeology Service, as part of their Outreach programme, has an on-going project to record medieval and later stone masons’ marks on as many churches, castles, bridges etc as possible in the NE of Scotland.
Defence of Scotland Project
This Project is part of the larger Defence of Britain Project which hopes to record as much of our 20th Century military heritage as possible.
Historic Kirkyards Project
The historic kirkyards of Aberdeenshire abound with many significant and delightful architectural features, the nucleus of which has always, or in most cases, been the kirk. This Project aims to protect and restore many of those ruined kirkyards.
The Archaeology Service has started a programme of systematically recording all the war memorials in Aberdeenshire
Banff Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) and Banff Renaissance Project
The Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is the Heritage Lottery Fund's grant giving programme for the repair and regeneration of the historic environment in towns and cities throughout the UK. Learn about how this project is being implemented in Banff, and how you can get involved.
The area to the west of Kintore up to and including the A96 Bypass is rich in recorded archaeological remains. Prior to 1996 it was known that the major archaeological feature within this area comprised of a temporary Roman marching camp at Deer's Den. Since then developer funded work has revealed a lot more.
The Limekilns of Upper Donside
