Conservation Area Regeneration Schemes (CARS)
The fishing ports of the North East coast have a distinctive character that Aberdeenshire Council recognises and wish to promote. The Scottish Government also values the historic environment as essential to the regeneration and sustainability of such places and a fund managed by Historic Scotland is distributed by Local Authorities in selected Conservation Areas.
Aberdeenshire Council was one of the first authorities to deliver a Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS). The Peterhead CARS was launched on the 27th November 2007. The scheme received a maximum of £650,000 from the Scottish Government via Historic Scotland to support the conservation and regeneration of the historic built environment within the Peterhead Central Conservation Area
The Peterhead CARS was completed on 30th June 2011 with all of the available grant £650,000, allocated to projects.
A joint THI/CARS has been delivered in Banff, whilst a new CARS commenced in Portsoy in 2011. This will run until March 2016.
