What is a resource centre?
We have seven purpose built resource centres in Aberdeenshire providing a service to adults aged 16 to 65 with special needs. The centres provide a range of centre-based activities including:
- life skills
- social skills
- leisure activities provide community opportunities, relaxation, creative crafts
We also have several small scale industrial units, community venues and several other facilities which provide a range of alternative day opportunities which may include training and access to work. Our resource centres have links to local colleges providing you with access to a range of courses.
The centres build on your abilities, enabling you to make more choices and develop your skills. We do this within a safe, caring and supportive environment and in a way that gives encouragement, builds self-confidence and skills and treats each person with respect.
Resource centres support you to have the opportunity to continue to try new experiences, develop new skills and be part of the local community.
People have different needs so the services are tailored to your individual needs following a needs based assessment. You also have a care plan, agreed with you, and tailored to your personal needs which is reviewed regularly. Every centre user is allocated a keyworker, a member of staff who provides you with individual support.
For more information on what is available contact your local resource centre.
What is day care?
Day care is for older people (aged 65+) and people with disabilities who enjoy social contact, but are less able to get out and about, or need support to manage day to day tasks.
Some day care offers a specialist service for people with memory impairment in a safe and friendly environment. Through a programme of stimulating activities, a small team of staff experienced in working with people who have memory problems, provide assistance and support, aimed at restoring and maintaining a sense of self confidence, self esteem and dignity.
Day care is a place to meet and make friends, in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where support can be given. Our day care services aim to:
- improve or maintain your quality of life
- promote your independence
- encourage friendships
- provide social contact, and
- meet your individual needs
Day care is organised by day care staff and volunteers and offers you a day out of your home and a break for your carer.
You can enjoy a nutritious and tasty meal in comfortable surroundings. There is a choice of menu and special dietary needs can be catered for.
For more information on what is available contact your local day care service.
