Where can I get information about services for people with:

 

Learning disabilities

  • Inspire provides a wide range of small-scale, local services for people with learning disabilities throughout North East Scotland. This includes residential services, support for people who live in their own homes (including staffed housing and housing with visiting staff), day services, respite care and holiday activity schemes for children
  • Sense Scotland provides services and support for children and adults with deafblindness or sensory impairment, learning disability or physical disability
  • ENABLE Scotlandis a charitable organisation. It supports children and adults with learning disabilities and their families to participate, work and live in their local communities.

Brain injury

Momentum Scotland provides the following services for people with a brain injury in Aberdeenshire:

Transitions - offers support to people with a brain injury and their families. By bridging the gap between hospital discharge and rehabilitation programmes, Transitions aims to reduce the isolation often felt by people with a brain injury, particularly those living in remote rural areas.

Pathways - provides specialist training and support for adults with a brain injury who want to return to work or further education.

Headway - is a charity set up to give help and support to people affected by brain injury

  • Autism Services Directory a directory of services and events for people with an autistic spectrum disorder, their families, and people who work with them
  • National Autistic Society Scotland provides information on autism and asperger syndrome, support and services, volunteering, campaigning, lobbying and fundraising activities in Scotland

  • Deafblind Scotland provides support and services to people with dual sensory impairments
  • Sense Scotland provides services and support for children and adults with deafblindness or sensory impairment, learning disability or physical disability
  • RNIB Scotland. RNIB Scotland benefits helpline: 0845 602 4033 open Monday to Friday 10.00am – 3.00pm. This helpline provides information and advice on claiming benefits, registering as blind or partially sighted, local support groups and community associations, local services for blind and partially sighted, and other organisations providing assistance to blind and partially sighted people over the age of 60.

Epilepsy

  • Epilepsy Scotland provides services to people with epilepsy, friends and family, and care professionals
  • Quarriers is an epilepsy support group. It meets on the first Wednesday of every month
    7 - 8.30pm at the Salvation Army Citadel at the Castlegate, Aberdeen. The group is for
    everyone who has epilepsy or cares for someone who has epilepsy. If you have any questions about Quarriers, please contact the fieldworker on 01224 566385.
  • Epilepsy Fieldwork service Aberdeenshire - two fieldworkers cover Aberdeenshire and offer practical support and information to people who have epilepsy. Contact 07947 634390 for more information.

Multiple sclerosis

  • Aberdeen branch of the Multiples Sclerosis Society provides information, support and practical help for people with multiple sclerosis and their families. The branch funds the Stuart Resource Centre. The Centre is an information, therapeutic, and social resource for people with multiple sclerosis, and their families and friends.
  • Horizons Rehabilitation Centre provides an assessment and therapeutic rehabilitation service for individuals with complex needs, such as multiple sclerosis
  • Sue Ryder Care - Aberdeen (or Dee View Court) is a residential care facility and helps people living with neurological illnesses, such as multiple sclerosis
  • Deeside Neurological Support service provides a multi-disciplinary service to people with a progressive neurological condition and registered with a Deeside GP. Contact with the service is by referral from any health professional, or by self referral.
