Career in Adminstration and Clerical Work
We have opportunities for individuals at all levels including:
- Clerical Assistant
- Receptionist
- Senior Clerical Assistant
- Administrative Assistant
- School Administrator
- Personal Assistant
- Administrative Officer
Typical Clerical duties involve reception work, word processing, filing, data input, photocopying and standard invoice and order processing.
Administrative duties include clerical work plus clarifying and cross checking information, complex word processing, file cataloguing and training new employees.
If you have qualifications and experience in administration, there may be opportunities to work at a higher salary where the work will be more challenging.
What qualifications and experience do you need?
There are opportunities for school leavers at the age of 16 to join Aberdeenshire Council as Clerical Assistants - minimum requirement for this position is Standard Grade Maths, English and/or Business Management. These positions are a great starting point for a career in an office environment.
Administrative Assistant positions will require you to have some previous clerical experience.
Once appropriate experience is gained there are opportunities for promoted administrative posts. Qualifications required will depend on the level of the position.
Qualifications can be sought at different levels in Administration including HNC / HND / Degree in Busineess Admin/Business studies (Usually BA).
HNC/HND can be gained at Aberdeen College or Banff & Buchan College. The ECDL qualification is also desirable.
Degree qualifications in Business Studies/Administration can be gained at the Robert Gordon University. Other educational institutes across Scotland also provide information and courses within a business discipline.
