Career in the Registration Service
Do you enjoy meeting people?
Are you an excellent communicator?
Would you enjoy speaking in front of large
audiences?
If Yes, then a position within Aberdeenshire’s
Registration Service could be the career for
you.
Working for the Service is extremely varied,
on any day you could be involved in sharing
the excitement of registering a birth and
also have to lead the bereaved through the
traumatic process of registering the death of a
loved one.
You will be involved in advising and guiding
happy couples to plan ceremonies that mark
some of the most important stages of their
lives. As well as births and marriages, you will asist with the personalisation of Naming ceremonies and Renewal of Vows ceremonies. Officiating at these ceremonies can
take place within the Office, or within the
impressive surroundings of hotels, castles or
other licensed venues.
You will also be required to officiate at
mandatory citizenship ceremonies hosted by
Aberdeenshire Council in order to welcome
new British citizens to Aberdeenshire where
they are officially presented with their
certificate of naturalisation.
What qualifications and experience
do you need?
To become part of the Registration staff
you need to have at least two year’s office
experience and possess a minimum of
Standard Grade English (or equivalent).
You must be an efficient and accurate
administrator, be well organised and have
the ability to be discreet and display absolute
confidentiality.
Registration procedure and legislation
training, together with registration Handbook
knowledge is ongoing. On initial appointment
you will be required to complete a two-part
distance learning package issued by the
General Register Office for Scotland.
There is plenty of "on the job" mentoring
and you will be required to commit to the
Aberdeenshire Registration Service’s two-year
Self-Study Programme, including attending
related Workshops. This ultimately leads to
you sitting the exam towards obtaining the
Certificate of Proficiency in the Law and
Practice of Registration.
Future Career Opportunities
Within our Registration Service, there are two job opportunities, Registrar and Assistant Registrar. We will encourage your professional development, supporting you in every way and helping you realise your potential.
