Career in Social Care
Many people in our society need some form of care. Carers have an important role to play in the well being of the young and the old, people with disabilities and those in need of support.
Social Care Workers are at the heart of the community working to support a variety of different client groups, from vulnerable older people to young people with disabilities.
You could help people maintain their dignity and independence.
Opportunities within Social Care include:
Home Carers
Providing domestic care and support, including dressing, personal care and shopping to people living in their own homes. You will help someone live a much more independent life. The hours can be sociable or unsociable, however, the satisfaction that can be gained can be extremely fulfilling.
Residential Officers
Providing care, including personal care, claiming benefits and developing personal and social skills, for adults with physical disabilities, elderly people, adults with mental health problems and people who are homeless.
Day Care Officers
Working at Day Care Centres, offering social contact, leisure activities, a place to go for a hot meal and helping with living skills. You will be involved with organising and providing these services. Day Care Officers also have the opportunity to work with social workers, doctors, nurses and occupational therapists.

Many jobs within social care are suitable for people who like to work flexible hours or work part-time. No two days are ever the same and a career in caring can offer great personal satisfaction.
