Career in Sport and Leisure If you like to help people, especially in Leisure and Sports pursuits, a career with Aberdeenshire Learning and Leisure could interest you.

People with all types of qualifications or interests are required and training can be provided.

Within Aberdeenshire Leisure we provide 2 key services:

  • Sport & Leisure
  • Libraries & Heritage

To provide these services we need talented hard working people who can work with all ages, abilities and backgrounds. A variety of training and experience is required ranging from in-service training to academic qualifications depending on the type of work.

  • Library/Senior Library Assistant
  • Arts Development Officer

What qualifications and experience do you need?

Swim InstructorSports & Leisure
For those who don’t wish to take the academic training route you will need to gain basic qualifications in skills like sports coaching, life guarding, fitness, youth work etc.

There are a number of people within the existing Sports Development Team who have begun their career as Coaches and developed to become Sports Co-ordinators or Governing Body Development Officers.

Modular courses can be achieved through studying and on the job training, leading to the ISRM Supervisory Management Certificate.

Libraries & Heritage
A new entrant as a Library Assistant would require 4 standard grades including English and the ECDL. A Librarian would need a degree or postgraduate diploma in Libraries and Information studies.

Career in Sport and Leisure A member of the professional curatorial staff will need a bachelors degree in an appropriate subject e.g. history, archaeology, history of art and a post graduate degree in Museum Studies.

Aberdeenshire Facilities run training courses for the national pool lifeguard qualification throughout the year.


Future Career Opportunities

We will give you financial support, practical experience and mentoring as you work towards a professional qualification. Many of
our staff members have joined our service at a young age and have advanced their career to Senior or Professional level.
