Obligations as a Tenant
As the tenant of a Council house, you, those living with you and any visitors to your house must not do anything or allow anything unreasonable to be done in the house, or in the neighbourhood, which could cause nuisance or annoyance to other people or which causes harassment to other people.
Harassment means any behaviour intended or likely to cause physical or mental distress or actual harm to that person.
Illegal Use
You must not use or allow your house to be used for illegal or immoral purposes. This includes, but is not limited to dealing in controlled drugs, running a brothel, dealing in stolen goods, illegal betting and/or illegal gambling.
Nuisance
In particular, you, those living with you and any visitors to your house must not cause nuisance or annoyance to neighbours or any person in the neighbourhood including Council employees, agents and contractors by the following actions:
- Making noise in whatever way which is a nuisance or annoyance including, but not limited to the use of, televisions, hi-fi, radio equipment and musical instruments.
- Failing to properly control any pet or allowing it to foul or cause damage to other persons property.
- Running any business operation from your house.
- Allowing visitors to your house to be noisy or disruptive.
- Vandalising or damaging any part of the house, common parts or neighbourhood.
- Leaving rubbish in unauthorised places.
- Failing to exercise reasonable control over your children and/or any other members of the household for whom you may be responsible.
- Parking any vehicle, including commercial vehicles, caravan or trailer inconsiderately.
- Carrying out work to any type of vehicle, caravan or trailer, in a way or place that causes nuisance or annoyance.
- Using or carrying firearms, knives, or other offensive weapons.
- Harassing or assaulting any person in the house or neighbourhood for whatever reason e.g. on basis of race, colour, ethnic origin, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability, age, religion or other belief.
