Keeping Pets
You have the right, subject to certain conditions, to keep one domestic pet without obtaining written consent from us, provided that:
- you do not live in a flat
- you do not live in a sheltered housing property.
If you do live in one of these types of properties, you are required to obtain written consent from us to keep any pet.
More than One Pet
If you wish to keep more than one pet in any type of house, you are required to obtain written consent from us.
Domestic Pets
The definition of a domestic pet is a:
- dog
- cat
- bird
- fish
- rodent
- small non poisonous reptile
- non poisonous insect or amphibian
This does not include any other type of animal or fowl.
Responsibilities
You also have a responsibility as the owner of the pet to comply with certain conditions which are:-
- You are responsible for the behaviour of any pets owned by you or anyone living with you.
- You take all reasonable steps to supervise such pets under your control.
- You take all reasonable steps to prevent such pets causing nuisance, annoyance or danger to neighbours. This includes fouling, noise or smell from any pet.
- You take reasonable care to see that such pets do not foul or cause damage to the house, your neighbour's property, anything belonging to us, or anything we are responsible for, such as common parts.
- You ensure that your pet is not prohibited by the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, or any other law.
