Exemption from Council Tax will be awarded where a property is:
- Solely occupied by person(s) whose sole or main residence is in the dwelling and are under the age of 18
In such cases, there is no liability for Council Tax at the property by these person(s). The exemption will remain until one of the residents becomes 18 years of age.
If another person aged 18 or over takes up residence in the property, then right to exemption will be lost and he/she will be liable for paying Council Tax, but a discount may be awarded.
To apply for exemption due to being under 18 years of age, please write to your Local Council Tax Team and include evidence to verify your date of birth such as:
- Birth certificate
- Income Support letter
- Drivers licence
Alternatively, contact your Council Tax Team who will help with your enquiry.
