A Carer
If someone lives in your home as a carer to look after a household member you may be eligible for a reduction.
There are two classes of carer:
- Full-time
- Voluntary
Certain specific conditions must be fulfilled as outlined below.
Full-time Carer
The Carer must:
- be resident in the home where they are providing the care
- not be the spouse of the person being cared for
- not be the parent of the person being cared for who is under the age of 18 years old
- provide care for more than 35 hours per week
The person being cared for must be in receipt of certain State Benefits or have an underlying entitlement to them. These are detailed in the application forms below .
Voluntary Carer
The Carer must:
- be resident in the home where they are providing the care
- provide care for more than 24 hours per week
- not receive more than £44.00 per week for providing this care
- have been introduced to the person to be cared for by a local authority or charitable organisation
