Reductions
Some households are entitled to a reduction in their Council Tax based on the personal circumstances of the residents or the condition of the property.

Exemptions
Vacant Properties:
- Empty and Unfurnished
- A Hospital Patient / in a Home
- Being Extensively Altered or Repaired
- Where Occupation is Prohibited by Law eg. Property subject to a Closing or Demolition Order
- Repossessed
- Vacant – Agricultural Property
- Currently in Prison
- Vacant – for Care Purposes
- Vacant – Caravan
Occupied Properties:
- Occupied solely by Students
- Occupied solely by a Severely Mentally Impaired Person
- Occupied solely by under 18 years old
Discounts:
- living on my own
- Student or Project 2000 Nurses
- A Hospital Patient / in a Home
- A Severely Mentally Impaired Person
- A Carer
- A Youth Trainee / YTS / Skill Seeker or Apprentice
- A Person over 18 who still qualifies for Child Benefit
- Currently in Prison
- A School Leaver
Unoccupied Discounts:
Disability Banding Reductions:
A reduction in Council tax may be awarded if the property is the home of a disabled person and certain criteria related to both the disabled person and the accommodation provided in the property are met.
Council Tax Benefit:
If you, or someone in your household is on a low income you can apply for Council Tax Benefit.
