Contaminated land

Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 came into force in Scotland in July 2000. It places responsibilities on local authorities to deal with contaminated land in accordance with a published Contaminated Land Strategy. Potentially contaminated land may also be addressed through the planning system.

Contaminated Land Register

The legislation requires that local authorities maintain a Public Register of Contaminated Land. Land on the public register is judged to meet the legal definition of contaminated land and has been formally identified.

In accordance with Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Aberdeenshire Council maintains a Public Register of Contaminated Land within Aberdeenshire.
