Environmental Protection
The Environmental Health Section of Aberdeenshire Councils’ Planning and Environmental Service are responsible for a wide range of environmental protection duties.
Noise Pollution
Sound is essential to our daily lives, but noise is not – noise can be defined as unwanted sound.
Atmospheric Pollution
The Environment Act 1995 requires Local Authorities to undertake air quality reviews
Light Pollution
There is no specific legislation that covers light pollution. Light Pollution is not a statutory nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act 1990
Drainage - Septic Tanks
If you live in a rural area and your home is not connected to mains drainage it is likely to have a septic tank
Bathing Water Quality
In Aberdeenshire 12 beaches are currently sampled for bathing water quality on a weekly basis.
Private Water Supplies
The Aberdeenshire Council area has approximately 8500 private water supplies serving both domestic and commercial properties.
Odours
An odour can be defined as a smell that is detectable. People have different abilities and tolerances of odours, and as such, we are faced with an often difficult task of establishing whether the odour is bad enough to cause a 'nuisance' or simply causes annoyance
Bats
All bats are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
Pest Control
Aberdeenshire Council does not directly provide a Pest Control Service. Our preferred contractor is Ecolab Ltd and they can be contacted on 0800 789 600
Seagull Nuisance
If you have problems with Seagulls there are several methods of discouraging them from roosting on your premises
Contaminated Land
Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 came into force in Scotland in July 2000. It places responsibilities on local authorities to deal with contaminated land in accordance with a published Contaminated Land Strategy
You can contact us on any matter by emailing environmental@aberdeenshire.gov.uk or by contacting one of the Area Offices.
