The Formartine Ranger covers the part of Aberdeenshire from just north of Aberdeen up to Turriff and the River Deveron in the north and in the west to Oldmeldrum.
Formartine has swathes of rich agricultural land - and its richness extends also to a wealth of natural and historical interest. From the coast with its variety of sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, moving sand dunes and River Ythan estuary (renowned in the bird watching world) to the woods and parklands of old estates that surround castles and country houses.
The landscape is soaked in the bloody battles of Robert the Bruce and Civil War skirmishes. It is still alive with legends of smugglers and Vikings and haunted by memories of happenings long ago.
