Reference Databases
Aberdeenshire Library and Information Service provides access to a number of online reference databases. With the exception of SCRAN, which is available in Aberdeenshire libraries only, all can be used from home by library members. List of local libraries
Britannica Online Library Edition
The Library edition has three encyclopaedias aimed at different ages:
Britannica Junior for ages 5-11
Britannica Student for ages 12-18
Encyclopaedia Britannica for age 18+

Home Access: Choose which encyclopedia you want to use and enter your membership card number at the prompt
Credo
Credo contains access to 100 high-quality reference books including dictionaries, encyclopaedias, thesauri, books of quotations. Other features include animations, sound clips and a crossword solver.
Try Credo's weekly Brainteaser and use Credo to find the answers. You need to sign up to get the quiz by email

KnowUK
KnowUK provides key information about the people, institutions and organisations of the United Kingdom.
It is a single electronic source of some of the most authoritative reference materials published, from Which? Guides to Whitaker's Almanack. Other features are also available such as The Year Ahead (a UK events calendar) and information appropriate to Life Events.

Kompass
Kompass contains business information for UK purchasers and suppliers. It provides listings on companies in all industries via a database of products and services.

NewsUK
NewsUK provides access to around 100 newspapers and magazines including the Press and Journal, Scotsman, The Herald and The Economist. Back issues can be searched and regular special reports on current issues are available.

Scran
Scran provides access to quality images, sounds, movies and learning resources. There are over 300,000 images from museums, galleries and archives on large range of subjects from sport to government to architecture and more.

Theory Test Pro
Theory Test Pro is a realistic online simulation of the UK's car, HGV, PCV and motorcycle driving theory tests. It contains all the official test questions licensed from the DSA. Questions can now be read aloud and translated into over 40 languages. Enable the voice overs and translations in the Account tab. Sign up and take free mock theory tests. The Hazard Perception Tests are not currently available in libraries.
You must sign up and create a username and password to use this resource.

Home Access: Click on the 'Sign In' Tab and enter your email address, your password and your library membership number.
