Brevet-Major George Davidson and
Reverend Robert Troup

Brevet-Major George Davidson was born in Huntly on 30th November 1776. He rose through the ranks to be Bt-Major 42nd Foot (Black Watch) and was mortally wounded at the battle of Quatre Bras two days before the battle of Waterloo.

The letters and photographs on display are from the Troup-MacDonald Collection. The Troups and MacDonalds were prolific writers and much of the correspondence is often warm and affectionate, showing a keen interest in family and local history - especially regarding Huntly. The letters and photos on display are mainly from the Boer War era.
The full Troup-MacDonald archive is available for research at our headquarters in Mintlaw, please phone the number below for details.
