Aberdeenshire Council moves to next stage on new primary school build

Plans for a new primary school at Fraserburgh have moved onto the next stage following a meeting of Aberdeenshire Council.

The project will see the merging of the current Fraserburgh North School and St Andrew’s School.

The new primary school would be set to open in February 2026 and would accommodate up to 450 pupils.

Following the public consultation and a public meeting showing off the proposed designs last week, Aberdeenshire Council is now moving the project onto the next phase.

This will see the full business case being prepared including detailed designs and obtaining construction tenders.

Aberdeenshire Council Provost Judy Whyte said: “I was happy to receive this report to full council as we move onto the next stage of building a new primary school.

“Both Fraserburgh North and St Andrews school buildings required significant upgrades and even with investment, there would be issues with accessibility and layout that could not be overcome.

“I look forward to updates from this next stage and beginning construction next summer.”
