News Release

Your local sports centre needs you!

29th July 2010

A whole range of activities are kicking off at Turriff Sports Centre this summer for people of all ages, from young children to their grandparents.

The centre wants to encourage residents from around the area to make full use of its extensive community facilities.

It also wants to hear what people would like from their sports centre, to encourage more people to come along and get healthy.

Activities are run at the centre during all school holidays and there are still places left in the current session.

There are also some places left on activities for young people after the summer break, including ball games, racquet sports and fitness training.

If any course fills up, a waiting list system is in place to inform customers when spaces become available.

Activities run alongside school terms and are always very popular, with many of the sports and activities on offer leading on to local clubs, groups or development teams outwith the sports centre.

Parents can also book children’s parties, with junior gymnastics and soft play available for very young children, or fit kids and sports parties for those a little bit older. Basic catering facilities are available.

But it’s not all for children - a new locally-run adult five-a-side league has proved to be very successful, with eleven teams taking part every week.

The league will run throughout the year and new teams are always welcome to join.

A new weekend indoor league aimed at under-16s is also planned for later in the year.

Facilities include two outdoor all weather pitches – one five-a-side pitch and a full size pitch which can be split into two or three sections to suit.

Anyone interested in entering a team in either the junior or adult outdoor five-a-side leagues should contact the centre for information.

Three indoor sports courts are available for public hire, suitable for a range of activities such as badminton, short tennis, volleyball and basketball.

The centre has a well-equipped fitness suite and qualified gym instructors to work with you, offering advice or devising a programme tailored to individual needs.

Qualified coaches and clubs also run activities for adults at the centre, including body pump and spinning classes, kickboxing, general exercise and circuit classes. New exercise and circuit classes will be starting soon.

A gentle exercise session aimed at over 50s, or those who prefer more relaxed exercise, is also offered.

Local groups using the centre for activities include football coaching, gymnastics, judo, badminton and volleyball clubs, all of whom would welcome new members.

The sports centre wants to hear the local community’s views on the activities it offers; what people would like to see more of and anything they think is missing.

A questionnaire will soon be available from a number of locations within Turriff and surrounding areas.

The centre also offers a crèche for parents who want to use the facilities while their children are cared for on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9.30-11.30am.

For further information about any of the activities, to book the use of a facility or inquire about prices, call (01888) 563800, or see: http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/recreation/swimleisure/turriff.asp

Alternatively, feel free to come past the centre, have a coffee and ask about the wide range of activities on offer.
