Banff Swimming Pool to reopen after £400,000 refurbishment
29th June 2012
Preparations are under way for the reopening of Banff Swimming Pool after the completion of a major upgrade programme.
The £400,000 project included refurbishment of the changing areas and reception foyer, improvements to the pool tank and preparatory work for upgrading of the air-handling unit, to keep the pool environment stable during sudden weather changes.
Banff Swimming Pool will reopen to the public on Monday, July 9 at 7am, for the start of a full summer programme.
The facility was closed in mid-April for the programme of works which took 12 weeks to complete.
While the pool was closed, customers were encouraged to use nearby facilities at Turriff, Huntly and Fraserburgh. Aberdeenshire Council worked closely with clubs which use the pool, to make sure alternative arrangements were in place during the closure.
Full details of the Banff Swimming Pool summer programme, and information on how to book swimming lessons, will be available at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk from Tuesday, June 31. You can also phone 01261 815754 for details from Tuesday.
Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Leisure and Learning Committee, Cllr Isobel Davidson, said: “We would like to thank the public for their cooperation and understanding while the swimming pool has been closed.
“We look forward to welcoming them back to the newly-refurbished facility which we believe has been greatly improved for local swimmers.”
Committee vice-chair, Cllr Ron McKail, said: “The swimming pool is an important facility for the local community and I am pleased that it is reopening with a full summer programme.”
