Peterhead pupils show racism and bigotry the red card
29th November 2012
A partnership event aimed at delivering anti-racism and anti-sectarianism messages to school pupils has taken place in Peterhead.
The event was organised by Show Racism the Red Card in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council, Grampian Regional Equality Council and Peterhead Football Club.
It involved 82 P7 pupils from Buchanhaven, Maud, Port Erroll and St Fergus Primary Schools and saw them participate in a variety of educational workshops where they learned about the causes and consequences of racism and sectarianism.
The young people also saw the new Show Racism the Red Card film, which was followed by an opportunity for the young people to pose questions on racism and sectarianism to a guest panel.
The panel included Peterhead FC Manager Jim McInally and first team player Dean Cowie, former professional footballers and current Show Racism the Red Card coaches / educators Derek Ferguson and Michael Weir, alongside representatives from Aberdeenshire Council and Grampian Regional Equality Council.
All the young people were delighted to get autographs and photos taken with the players following the session.
