Archaeolink to get new season off to a bang
31st March 2008
The new season is set to get well and truly underway at Archaeolink Prehistory Park with its first event weekend due to take place this coming weekend (April 5 and 6).
The 17th Century Re-enactment weekend, running from 11am-5pm both days, will feature Hugh Fraser's regiment, the north-east's own regiment in the Sealed Knot society, in their only Aberdeenshire event in 2008.
Visitors to Archaeolink will have the opportunity to see the covenanting troops drilling with musket, pike and sword.
They can also find out how the matchlock musket works and why the covenanters are in the field against the royalists.
While there will be smaller events taking place throughout the day, the schedule for the fixed main events is as following:
13:00: Parade and Drill
14:00: Musket Display
15:00: Skirmish
16:00: Drill and Display
The centre opened for the new season on Sunday, March 23, when it held an open day.
Despite wintry conditions, over 500 people attended to witness the Medieval Realm and Historic Saltire Society put on living history and combat displays.
The Easter Bunny was also in attendance leading the Easter Egg Hunt on Berryhill.
The next event weekend at Archaeolink will be Medieval Weekend featuring the Historic Saltire Society, taking place on April 19 and 20.
