Paths and Outdoor Access
Networks
Local paths serve a wide range of needs. They can enable you to explore the countryside from your own home without needing to use a car, they can let you walk or cycle to work (or to the bus stop or rail station); increasingly people are recognising the health benefits of fresh air and exercise; many paths are used every day of the year for walking the dog; and what better way than walking, cycling or riding to show your local countryside to visitors in Aberdeenshire's (predominantly) fine weather!
Local path networks have been developed around a number of Aberdeenshire towns and villages, and more are in the pipeline. See the Contact page for the range of leaflets currently available.
Local Paths
Ellon Circular Route - aboot Ellon
The fast-growing town of Ellon now has its own circular walk enabling visitors and residents to appreciate the town's unrivalled setting by the banks of the Ythan.
Insch on the Map for Cyclists
Three circular routes, waymarked with coloured arrows, provide leisurely opportunities to explore the rolling hill country between Insch and the Hill of Foudland, with sweeping views over the Pictish province of The Garioch to Bennachie. All the routes are on public roads with a tarred surface, winding through beech avenues, open farmland and forests.
