Pathways to Policy - Supporting Learning in Aberdeenshire
Introduction
Supporting Learning in Aberdeenshire: Pathways to Policy describes the range of Aberdeenshire
policies which support children and young people's learning.
It seeks to bring these together, set them in context and establish links and common pathways leading to them and between them. It demonstrates that educational establishments are central to the delivery of appropriate and suitable education for all Aberdeenshire's children and young people.
Aberdeenshire Education and Recreation Service works collaboratively with parents, carers and partners in Health and Social Work to provide appropriate support. The major impact of this project will be to improve the working practice of all practitioners.
Supporting Learning in Aberdeenshire is firmly based on key national legislation and
guidelines for example:
- The Standards in Scotland’s Schools etc Act (2000)
- Education: (Additional Support for Learning)(Scotland) Act 2004
- For Scotland's Children (2001)
It also sits well with local policies. It compliments the roll-out of Integrated Community Schools, the development of multi-agency Community School Networks, Integrated Assessment, Planning and Recording Framework strategy, the ongoing audit of Additional Support Needs provision across Aberdeenshire and the development of a multi-agency approach to quality assuring Integrated Children’s Services. All staff, from across all agencies have a key responsibility to respond effectively to the broader concept of additional support needs.
The document reflects the Aberdeenshire Support Needs Policy Framework which was approved by Aberdeenshire Education and Recreation Committee on 2 November 2006 and by Aberdeenshire Housing and Social Work Committee on 9 November 2006.
