Capacity Studies

Capacity Studies take a long term view of a settlements capacity to grow. The consider potential constraints and opportunities and what potential benefits new development could bring to a settlement. To assess this potential, it has been assumed that settlements may increase in size in the future by around a theoretical level growth They are intend as 'studies' rather than plans and will help Aberdeenshire Council to look at the long term when considering growth through development plans. Capacity Studies are being undertaken on a number of settlements within Aberdeenshire.

On 17 March 2009, the Buchan Area Committee agreed the Peterhead Capacity study for use as information for the next Local Development Plan.

On 2 December 2008, the Garioch Area Committee agreed the Westhill Capacity Study as information for the next Local Development Plan.

On 28 October 2008, the Kincardine and Mearns Committee agreed the Portlethen Corridor and Laurencekirk Capacity studies for use as information for the next Local Development Plan.

The newly published Peterhead Capacity, Ellon Capacity Study, Portlethen Corridor Study, Laurencekirk Study, and the Draft Stonehaven Capacity Study can be found, complete with diagrams and appendix.
