Imagine Peterhead - a Capacity Study

On 17 March 2009, the Buchan Area Committee agreed the use of the Peterhead Capacity Study for use in the next Local Development Plan.

Background

The Farningham McCreadie Partnership / White Young Green were appointed by Aberdeenshire Council to prepare a study examining the capacity of the town of Peterhead to grow significantly in the future. This study, entitled ‘Imagine Peterhead: A Capacity Study’, is one of a series of capacity studies for different towns around Aberdeenshire.

The Aberdeenshire Local Plan provides the statutory basis for making planning decision for the next 5-10 years. Imagine Peterhead: A Capacity Study is not a replacement for the Local Plan, it is not a ‘blueprint’ for Peterhead’s future and it does not stipulate what should happen. Instead, it is an exploration of what could happen, it allows consideration of possibilities and potential, and it will be one of a number of background documents that the Council will consider when reviewing the Local Plan.

Imagine Peterhead: A Capacity Study takes as its starting point the assumption that that Peterhead will grow by 50% at some stage in the future, be it over 15, 50 or more years, and examines where this growth could be located and what would be required in terms of associated growth in community facilities, employment provision, services, open space, and infrastructure.

Consultation

The consultation period on Imagine Peterhead: A Capacity Study ran from Monday 3 November 2008 to Friday 12 December 2008. Copies of the document, together with a feedback forms, were available for viewing in the Peterhead Branch Library and Arbuthnot House, Broad Street, Peterhead during the consultation period. A one day manned exhibition with staff from White Young Green and Aberdeenshire Council was held on Monday 10 November 2008, from 10:30 to 21:00, in the Palace Hotel, Prince Street, Peterhead.
