WRVS Services Aberdeenshire

What We Can Do

We offer local people who need the kind of informal one-off help a relative or friend might provide:

  • transport to health centres, or to visit a friend or relative in hospital,
  • for social occasions
  • for shopping -we can take clients shopping by car or collect shopping for them
  • help in the home when ill or infirm or to do simple DIY tasks and gardening
  • pets - walk a dog or feed a cat
  • companion - provide a companion to let a carer take a break

We also run shopping buses from Alford, Balmedie, Blackburn, Insch, Kemnay, Kintore and Oldmeldrum. Those entitled to Scotland-wide free bus travel can use these services free of charge. Contact us for more details.

Who Can We Help?

Primarily older people with restricted mobility due to ill health or age, those who are unable to access a bus service or people who are socially isolated.

Who Runs the Scheme?

WRVS organises the scheme. The scheme is run by volunteers. Where volunteers own cars are used for social transport, they are insured to carry WRVS clients.

Our volunteers are accredited members of WRVS, with badges and ID cards.

Do I Have to Pay?

Social Transport is charged at 45p per mile. No charge is made for other tasks but donations towards running costs are welcome.

What Areas Do We Cover?

We have volunteers throughout Aberdeenshire. Please contact us for more details.

How Can I Help?

  • Everyone in the community has something to offer.
  • 2 / 3 hours per week / fortnight / month can make a difference.
  • There are many useful ways in which house-bound people may help too.

We welcome men and women of all ages.
