It is very important that you notify us of any change in your circumstances which affects the amount of Business Rates you pay.
By doing so it allows us to ensure the information held by us is up to date and accurate at all times, ensuring the amount of Business Rates you are asked to pay is correct.
Examples of changes which should be reported are as follows:
- Moving out of your Business Rates premises, e.g. if you move to other premises, or you end a tenancy
- If your premises becomes vacant/empty
How to register for Business Rates
If you are moving into a Business property in the Aberdeenshire area then you will need to contact us to register for Business Rates.
This can be done by:
- Completing a Change of Ratepayer Form
- Contacting your Business Rates Team
- Visiting one of our Council Offices

Other Changes in Circumstances
If you are receiving discount or exemption but those circumstances change then you must report this change as soon as possible.
For Example:
- A reduction has been awarded under the Small Business Bonus Scheme, but there has now been a change to your total combined Rateable Value.
- A property that is subject to Empty Property Relief has now been occupied
- A reduction has been awarded for Mandatory/Discretionary Relief, but there has been a change in your constitution.
