Aberdeenshire Sports Council Membership Grants/Coaching Grants


Information

The finance working group meets bi-monthly to consider all grant aid applications and make recommendations to the executive committee. Please note the revised coaching scholarship application process.

  • Club Start up - purpose of this grant is to encourage greater participation in sport at grassroots level.  Available for new groups to apply for or groups that are increasing their pool of membership (for example, setting up a junior section).  If new club ceases to exist within three years of grant award then ASC will seek re-imbursement.  Club must submit copies of their Constitutions, last Bank Statement.  Maximum level of funding £200.
  • Club Coach Development, purpose of this grant is to encourage the development of more qualified coaches.  For example a NGB course, Sports Coach UK, Running Sports or other appropriate qualification.  Recipients of awards should be prepared to assist with local events or coaching courses to the general benefit of sport in the area.  Recipients should be coaching on a voluntary basis.  Up to 50% of the actual course fees may be covered by ASC.  Applications must be made by, and grants paid to, the affiliated club rather than an individual.  50% of costs up to the maximum level of funding - £100.  Please check if your sport and phase in date is listed in the Club Coach UKCC section.  If so please apply as instructions.
  • Club Coach UKCC (see below for more details and liks to UKCC)- Sportscotland have changed the way they administer coaching grants for some sports UKCC courses.  From March this year Sportscotland will phase in grant funding for 22 sports, please check our website to see if your sport is included on this list and the month of commencement.  All other sports can apply in the normal way, as club coach development above.
  • Club Talented Development Team/Club/Individual – Scottish, UK & Europe and International Representation, purpose of this grant is to support individuals or clubs that have been selected to participate in training squads or competitions at Regional, National or International Level.  Applications must be made by, and grants paid to, the affiliated club rather than an individual.  Letter from NGB confirming invitation and Ranking list must be provided at time of Claim.  Maximum level of funding - £200.

             Funding for school age children completing for a school or club in a National or International Competition.  Maximum level of funding - £100.

  • Club Development Grants.  Categories of grants see below:

Equipment, purpose of this grant is to provide equipment to increase participation in sport.  Clubs will have to insure equipment items.  Grants are not available for personal items or team strips.  All grants will be merit based on each individual application, as wear and tear is subjective to a sport or activity’s equipment.  If a club ceases to exist within three years of receiving a grant then the sale value of the equipment must be returned to ASC.  50% of costs up to the maximum level of funding - £500.

Event, purpose of this grant is to support clubs who want to develop their club or raise the profile of their sport/club by way of an event or at enhancing participation or performance at club and community level, including: Public open days; Competitions (of higher standard than normal club competitions); Coaching Workshops; Festivals, Mini Games, Taster Sessions; Club to School or Community Links; etc.  50% of costs up to the maximum level of funding - £250.

Development, Participation & Performance Grant, purpose of this grant is for the: Development of Introductory, Improver and Performance squads; Initial establishment of Annual Leagues and Tournaments; High Level Coaching; Development of Junior, Disabled, Youth Initiatives within Club or Community Settings.  50% of costs up to the maximum level of funding - £500.

  • Club Travel Grant, purpose of this grant, is to help clubs and teams, attend competitions or events for which they have had to qualify.  50% of costs up to the maximum level of funding - £250 per club (UK), £500 (outside UK)

Clubs travelling to non selective events or competitions in the UK, Europe or abroad will not be considered unless long term development benefits to the club can be demonstrated. 50% of cost up to the maximum level of funding - £100 per club (UK), £200 (outside UK)

UKCC Coach Education Funding

2011 sees the roll out of a new UKCC funding model to support the recruitment of new coaches in Scotland through the national agency for sport, sportscotland.

sportscotland recognise the importance of new coaches coming into sport and the need for accessible, affordable coaching courses to be available to them.

What is UKCC?

The UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) is a national initiative to endorse coach education programmes, across sports throughout the UK, against agreed criteria including:

  • the endorsement of the coaching qualification each coach will take
  • the development of appropriate resources to deliver effective and high quality coach education programmes
  • quality assured administration of coach education provision and
  • quality assured training provision of coach education programmes

Am I eligible?

  • Applicants must demonstrate coaching activity within six months of applying for the subsidy (minimum activity supported will be once per month or an average of 12 sessions per year)
  • The course being attended must take place in Scotland and be registered with the SQA (your course organiser can confirm this)
  • Applicants should evidence what impact this qualification will have on their school, club or community. (This should be detailed in the Applicant Support Information section of the application form)

Individual applications

Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria, can access funding of up to 50% or £150/person of the course fee, whichever is lower.
