Location and Car Parking
Huntly is approx. 1hours drive from Aberdeen on the A96. When reaching the main roundabout at Huntly head towards Huntly Town Centre and follow the signs for Huntly Castle / Nordic Ski Centre.
The car park is situated at The Gordon Schools.
Transition Area
The transition area is set up in the Swimming Pool car park. There is a 20m run from the pool exit to the transition area. The bike exit will be heading up the hill to the right. The run exit will be to the left.
Sections
Swim Section - All
Both the Standard & the Sprint Swims are Pool Based
Huntly Pool is a 25m, 4 lane pool allowing heats of 20 swimmers. Sprint distance is 30 lengths and the Standard distance is 60 lengths. The start is at the deep end of the pool as the exit is at that end of the building. There is a 20m run from the swim exit to the transition area. Shoes may be left just outside the door.
Cycle section - All
On collecting bike exit transition area and go up hill out of car park. Mount bike and then Turn Left onto The Avenue, proceed down The Avenue until the Monument then turn left onto East Park Street. After cycling for approx. 400m turn Diagonally Right into Mill Road then Right onto Mill Road. Beware of double junction at bottom of hill leading to Bogie Street be prepared to Stop. Turn Left and continue on along this road passing the station towards the A96. Turn Left onto the A96 for approx. 300m before taking the Left Turn towards Banff on the A97.
Cycle Section – Sprint
On turning onto the A97, proceed for approx. 4Km, before taking a Left Turn onto the B9110 heading for Rothiemay. Follow this road, with a few sharp bends to Rothiemay. Cross over the bridge and carry on to the War Memorial where you will Turn Left. Cycle along this scenic riverside section until you reach the junction with the B9022 and Turn Left and proceed to the Bridge of Gibston (Huntly). At the bridge Turn Left past the cemetery until you reach the Deveron Road. Turn Left towards Huntly until the road narrows, and then you turn Left up Meadow Street and bear right into West Park Street. At the Memorial Turn Left into the Avenue and head for the transition area.
Cycle Section – Standard
On turning onto the A97, proceed for approx. 18km towards Aberchirder. When you reach the junction for the B9177 to Milltown of Rothiemay Turn Left. (This is a wooded undulating section that follows the river). On entering Rothiemay Turn Right and follow this road until you come to a T-Junction, Turn Left onto the B9022 and proceed to the Bridge of Gibston (Huntly). At the bridge Turn Left past the cemetery until you reach the Deveron Road. Turn Left towards Huntly until the road narrows, and then you turn Left up Meadow Street and bear right into West Park Street. At the Memorial Turn Left into the Avenue and head for the transition area.
Run Section – Standard
Exit transition area and run up the Left side of the Linden Centre through the path onto the Avenue, (Beware of Bikers). Turn right, go through the archway and run down the Avenue towards the castle keeping to the Left-hand side, past the Castle and up the hill towards the castle hotel. Keep running to the left of the hotel and Turn Left onto the hotel access road. Follow this road until it meets the B9022 and Turn Left and proceed to the Bridge of Gibston (Huntly). At the bridge Turn Left past the cemetery until you reach the Deveron Road. Turn Left towards Huntly until the road narrows, and then you turn Left up Meadow Street and bear right into West Park Street. At the Memorial Turn Left into the Avenue and head for the archway to complete a second lap.
Run Section – Sprint
Exit transition area and run up the Left side of the Linden Centre through the path onto the Avenue, (Beware of Bikers). Turn Right, go through the archway and run down the Avenue towards the castle keeping to the Left-hand side, past the Castle and up the hill towards the castle hotel. Keep running to the left of the hotel and Turn Left onto the hotel access road. Follow this road until it meets the B9022 and Turn Left and proceed to the Bridge of Gibston (Huntly). At the bridge Turn Left past the cemetery until you reach the Deveron Road. Turn Left towards Huntly until the road narrows, and then you turn Left up Meadow Street and bear right into West Park Street. At the Memorial, Turn Second Left into the Lane and head for the Finish
