What is a Naming Ceremony?

A Naming Ceremony is a special way of celebrating and welcoming bubblesthe arrival of your child into the family.  However, children of any age can have a Naming Ceremony. The ceremony is purely secular, no religious content is allowed. They have no legal standing and are simply something that you, as a parent, choose to do as a public gesture of love and commitment to your child. It is also an opportunity for adult friends, chosen by you, to pledge their special relationship with your child.  It is a unique occasion for everyone to feel involved and to offer their support in your child’s future development.

Any parent can make the arrangements, or anyone else who has Parental Responsibility or Legal Guardianship of the child.
(Parents of the child do not require to be married) As part of the booking procedure you will be asked to produce your child’s birth certificate.

All Naming Ceremonies will be personalised according to your requirements and may contain readings, promises by parents, supporting adults or grandparents, reasons for the choice of name etc.

The ceremony can be held within any Aberdeenshire Council Registration Office or at a venue which has already been approved to hold civil marriage ceremonies.

If you are interested in this kind of ceremony and wish any further information with regards venues, charges or booking a ceremony contact your local registrar or email registrars@aberdeenshire.gov.uk
