Marriages
Welcome to our guide to arranging your Civil Marriage.
Whether you choose to get married in one of our Registration offices, at one of the many approved venues throughout Aberdeenshire or a temporary approved venue, our experienced Registrars will be delighted to offer assistance and advice on any aspect of your forthcoming marriage.
When you have decided on a date and venue for your marriage, you should contact the appropriate Registration office to check availability as well as securing your booking with a £20 non-refundable deposit. To avoid any disappointment you should make your booking as soon as possible.
Remember that you will need to complete Marriage Notice forms and the additional information sheet no more than 3 months and no less than 14 days prior to the date of the marriage. Guidance to Marriage in Scotland is found on leaflet RM1.
Registrars are only permitted to conduct non-religious ceremonies. Any music, readings, personal vows etc which forms part of the ceremony, must also be non-religious and is required to be approved by the Registrar prior to the marriage. Video recording of Civil Marriages may be permitted but are at the discretion of the Registrar.
Religious Marriages
Persons wishing a religious marriage must discuss their marriage with their chosen celebrant. They must complete and submit Marriage Notice forms and an additional information sheet to the Registrar in whose district the marriage is to take place. This must be accompanied by the appropriate documentation and statutory fee. Guidance to Marriage in Scotland is found on leaflet RM1.
