1. Consent for excavating in a road by a private party

(under Section 109 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991)

1.1 Excavation not involving installation of private apparatus £82
1.2 Excavation for installation of a private apparatus, classed as Minor Works (one inspection included) £161
1.3 Excavation for installation of a private apparatus, classed as Major Works up to one inspection unit (3 inspections included) £227
1.4 Cost of additional inspection to 1.2 or 1.3 £25
1.5 Additional charge to 1.3 per additional inspection unit £75

Note: As from 1 October 2008, new legislation comes into effect introducing fixed penalties for unauthorised road occupations. The penalty will be £120 reduced to £80 for prompt payment. Consent will still be required if the occupation is to continue and the normal permit fees will apply in addition to the fixed penalty.
