Trunk Road Works

Schoolhill Development - Portlethen

sponsors of Schoolhill development

Background

Planning permission has been granted for the construction of over 800 homes, a business/ industrial park and community facilities at Schoolhill on the west side of the A90 Trunk Road.

As part of the planning permission the developer Stewart Milne Homes must provide a new junction on the A90 at Marywell and a new underpass link to Portlethen via Cookston Road

It is anticipated that the construction of these measures will cause some disruption to the A90. A 50mph speed limit will be implemented from the Badentoy Interchange to Charleston Interchange. Two lanes in both directions will be maintained during peak period

The necessary roads infrastructure must be completed prior to the construction of the housing development and major changed to the existing road network are planned.

Trunk Road Works

As this is a trunk road scheme, it is being managed by Transport Scotland and their agents Bear Scotland. Transport Scotland and Bear Scotland have agreed that no additional planned roadworks will take place between Stonehaven and Aberdeen for the duration of the construction period. This does not however include emergency works.

Timescales

The site will be occupied from May 2006 and the link road should be complete by Christmas 2007.

Other timescales to be aware of are:

  • Permanent closure of Cookston Road from A90 Autumn 2006

Traffic Management Review

In the coming summer months further investigation to develop a variety of road safety and traffic management measures will take place through a Traffic Management review of Portlethen

This is an exercise undertaken by Aberdeenshire Council whereby the local community is given the opportunity to comment on any concerns that they may have and we will investigate further and develop solutions if found necessary.

Please look out for posters advertising the consultation exercise in the summer months, or check Aberdeenshire Council's website - Roads section
