A playgroup provides play and learning for children aged between two and five years old. A committee of parents along with qualified or experienced staff run the groups. Parents can help out on a voluntary basis.
Playgroups carry out checks on all staff and regular parent helpers through Disclosure Scotland.
Children over the age of three can get a free place at a playgroup. Charges may apply for a child under three.
Playgroup sessions take place either in the morning or afternoon during school term time. A child will normally attend a playgroup on a part time basis for one or two years before moving to a nursery or school.
Playgroups provide children with a range of activities:
- Sand and water play
- Adventure play
- Music and movement
- Books and stories
Children have the opportunity to socialise with other kids in a stable, secure and relaxed environment. This environment is ideal for encouraging their learning and development skills.
