School clothing grants

The grant is £120 per year (1st April to 31st March) for primary school aged children and £150 per year (1st April to 31st March) for secondary school aged children.

Who can get school clothing grant

The school clothing grant is only available to children in full time education. You cannot apply for a school clothing grant for children attending nursery school.

You can apply for a school clothing grant if you or your family receives:

  • Income Support (IS)
  • Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance (JSA)
  • Any income related element of Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit (CTC), but not Working Tax Credit, and your income is less than £18,725
  • Both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit with an income of less than £8,717
  • Universal Credit with a monthly take home pay of less than £726

If you are between 16 and 18 years old and receive any of these benefits in your own right, you can apply for a school clothing grant for yourself.

You may also be eligible if you are an asylum seeker receiving support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

If you live in Aberdeenshire but your child attends school in Aberdeen City you must apply to Aberdeen City Council for a school clothing grantIf you qualify for a school clothing grant we will automatically award free school meals entitlement.

Supporting documents

You can send any supporting documentation for your application to fsm@aberdeenshire.gov.uk. If you do not provide supporting documentation with your application, we will contact you to provide the necessary information to support your claim.

Payments 

Payments are made by BACS to your nominated bank account on a monthly basis but you will be informed about the date of payment as soon as possible.

Buying a school uniform

You are strongly encouraged to use the clothing grant to buy clothes that meet the school dress code. Some items of school clothing can be bought from your child's school.
