Supporting and protecting adults from harm policy

Originally launched in August 2006, the Grampian Interagency policy and procedures for support and protection of adults at risk have been reviewed and revised by the Grampian Adult Support and Protection Working Group, taking into account the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 and local experiences. The current policy was reviewed in September 2011 and launched in February 2012.

The policy should be used by all statutory and independent sector organisations in Grampian. It aims to help workers recognise when an adult may be at risk and how to respond. It covers:

  • definitions and patterns of abuse
  • principles of investigation
  • recording information, and
  • dealing with issues such as capacity and risk assessment
