Very Sheltered Housing

Very Sheltered Housing allows older people or people with disabilities to keep their independence and privacy while making sure care and support is provided.

Tenants have their own flat in a secure complex with use of communal facilities. Meals are provided – lunch and tea – these are freshly prepared on site.

Regular social activities are organised by staff. You can be involved in choosing and arranging these events.

Most Very Sheltered Housing schemes also provide guest accommodation. This can be booked by your relatives or friends for a small charge.

Very Sheltered Housing care and support

Very Sheltered Housing provides a dedicated team of care and support staff, available on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This care and support is provided and managed by us. It is tailored to meet your assessed needs. It can include help with personal care, medication, maintaining relationships, emotional support and help with maintaining the property.

A named key worker works with you to discuss and agree your care and support needs. This is recorded in a personal plan. The plan is regularly reviewed with you, your family and other people involved in your care.

Is Very Sheltered Housing for me?

Very Sheltered Housing is usually offered to people who are 60 years of age or above and vulnerable in their current accommodation. Younger applicants may be considered depending on their circumstances.

Applicants are assessed to see if they qualify for Very Sheltered Housing. The assessment makes sure you have an identified need for Very Sheltered Housing. Prospective tenants need a level of personal care and housing support but not necessarily the level of support a care home offers.

Tenants are free to come and go as they please.

Existing pets may be allowed. But you must discuss and agree this with the housing provider before your tenancy starts.

Very Sheltered Housing rent and charges

Very Sheltered Housing tenants pay rent to a landlord. You will have a secure tenancy with the relevant housing association or with us.

You may apply for housing benefit. This will work out if you are eligible for all, or part, of your rent charge to be covered, depending on you income and savings.

There is a charge for meals. This charge isn't eligible for financial support.

There is a charge for use of the guest accommodation.
