Reports and risk assessments

Our Criminal Justice serviceĀ is asked to write reports by courts to help sentencers decide the most appropriate way to deal with offenders. These are known as Criminal Justice Social Work Reports.

The reports include:

  • background information on the offender
  • their attitude to the offence
  • an assessment of ongoing risk, and
  • a review of the likely impact of the available sentences

We regularly provide reports on compliance with community based sentences, as well as Home Background / Home Leave Reports, which are prepared for the Parole Board and Scottish Prison Service to help with sentence management.
