Population and Household Projections for Aberdeen City and Shire
This report, produced jointly by Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council, examines the 2008-based population and household projections for Aberdeen City and Shire that were published by the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS), now National Records of Scotland, in 2010. Since the base date of the GROS projections in June 2008, there have been a number of events that have had (and will continue to have) an impact on demographic trends. The UK economy went into a recession in the second quarter of 2008 that lasted for 18 months; unemployment rates have risen and there is the prospect of further job losses in the public sector; the number of migrant workers coming to Aberdeen City & Shire has fallen; and there are a number of other factors that indicate the economic outlook is less encouraging than it was in the first half of 2008. For these reasons, the 2008-based GROS projections are assessed in this report on the basis of what we now know about post-2008 events.
