Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards 2007

Entries are welcomed for the 17th annual Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards which will take place on Wednesday 14th March 2007. Mr Ken McMeikan, the Retail Director for Sainsbury's, will chair this year's event. Joining Mr McMeikan on the judging panel are Ronald McDonald, General Manager of Craig Group Foodservice, and Natalie Minnis, editor of the Scottish Grocer.

Awards categories and application forms

Application forms are available to download by following the links below.

All qualifying and judging criteria are contained within the download documents. Please note these vary for each category.

  1. Grampian Food Forum Innovation Award for a new innovative retail product.
    Winners will receive a cash prize and a specially engraved trophy.
    1st - £1,000
    2nd - £500
    3rd - £250.

  2. Scottish Enterprise Grampian Award for a new innovative foodservice product.
    Winners will receive a cash prize of £1,000 and a specially engraved trophy.

  3. Anderson's Packaging (Aberdeen) Ltd Award for the most innovative packaging.
    One winner will reeceive a cash prize of £600 and a specially engraved trophy.

  4. Rowett Research Institute Award for a healthy food or drink product.
    Winners will receive a cash prize of £1,000 and a specially engraved trophy.

  5. Aberdeen City Council Award for a healthy food or drink product specifically for children.
    Winners will receive a cash prize of £1,000 and a specially engraved trophy.

  6. Business Gateway International Award for exporting products to a new overseas market.
    One winner will receive £600 towards travel and accommodation when visiting a target export market.


    No application forms required for the following categories

  7. Johnston Carmichael Award for the best marketing plan. Entries to 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 will be considered.
    The prize is a corporate dinner for 10 at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa to the sum of £700.

  8. Aberdeenshire Council Award for the Most Successful Product from the 2006 Awards. Entries will be issued to relevant companies only.
    One winner will receive a cash prize of £500 and a specially engraved trophy.

  9. Marcliffe Hotel and Spa Award for the most innovative product overall. Entries to categories 1, 2, 4 and 5 will be considered.
    One winner will receive £500.

Announcing a new category - The Taste of Grampian Restaurant of the Year Award for the eating establishment that can demonstrate the best and most innovative use of produce from food or drink companies based in Grampian. Full details of the award will be published in the Press and Journal.

How to use the application forms

  • Open the desired application form, then save as... into your own drive, creating a new file for each product entered.
  • Send a printed copy of your completed form along with a 35mm or digital slide or digital photo of your product to:

Winners will be announced by Mr Ken McMeikan at the Grampian Food Forum Innovation Awards Presentation Dinner at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa on Wednesday 14th March 2007. Tickets for the dinner cost £45 per person (includes VAT) and can be booked by completing and returning the form below:

CATEGORY 1 Retail Award

Note - Categories 4 and 5 will be judged by representatives from the Rowett Research Institute. You will be informed of the judging date of these award.
