Scottish Food Scholarship 2007

Following the success of the inaugural Scottish Food Scholarship 2006 we are to hold the second ever Scholarship in 2007 and we would like to invite you to be involved in supporting this. Following the success of 2006, the scholarship can only get bigger and better!  I have attached a proposal and relevant information for you to consult. The first ever Scottish Food Scholarship has produced an extremely positive response from competitors, judges and sponsors alike. The scholarship is an ideal medium to bring to the fore not only the wealth of young Scottish culinary talent but also the riches that Scotland’s flora and fauna has to offer. We call on your support to make next years competition an even bigger success.

The Scottish Food Scholarship was devised to develop and encourage the talent of young chefs across Scotland. The Scholarship not only aims to nurture talent but will open doors and opportunities for the young chef and their establishment. The 2006 winner, Kevin Sutherland from the Balmoral, received a selection of prizes from sponsors and supporters alike including, an internship with Raymond Capaldi in Melbourne, an internship with Michelin starred Chef Martin Wishart, a day’s meat master class with Scotch Beef and a years worth of product from Grahams Dairies.

Last years supporters included; a selection of Scotland’s Michelin Star chefs, Martin Wishart, Tony Borthwick, Allan Donald, Jeff Bland, Matthew Gray, Chris Firth-Bernard and Keith Braidwood. Sponsors from across Scotland included Braehead Foods, Aberdeen City Council, Seafish, Seafood Scotland, Scottish Food and Drink, Highland Game, RH Morton and Visit Scotland. For further details of all of the 2006 Scholarship sponsors please see www.scottishfoodscholarship.co.uk

Both the competitors and the sponsors have gained through the high standard of PR the event received. The Scholarship was featured throughout the media in press, TV and radio. The first cook off was screened on BBC Landward and Grampian TV.  This was followed by an array of features in; Scotland on Sunday, The Herald, the Daily Record, the Express, Scottish Field, Catering in Scotland and the Scotsman to name but a few.

We would therefore like to give you the opportunity to follow the 2007 scholarship as it moves from the Highlands and Islands down through central Scotland to Ayr, the Scottish Borders and Edinburgh before the final at ScotHot, Glasgow SECC on the 26th of February. The final 9 chefs selected from across the country will battle it out to achieve the title of Scottish Food Scholar 2007.
