Video Conferencing
Video conferencing is when two or more people conduct a meeting via
video link rather than in person. It allows people to keep in touch and conduct meetings without the time and cost involved in travelling.
Video conferencing partly addresses the need to reduce congestion and carbon emissions.
Aberdeenshire Council has invested in video conferencing facilities at a number of sites across Aberdeenshire as part of A Travel Plan for Aberdeenshire. The aim is to reduce by 2010 business mileage by 4%.
What can video conferencing be used for?
Video conferencing can give you or another colleague a "virtual presence" in meetings taking place in separate locations, such as:
- formal and informal meetings
- presentations, lectures, seminars and courses
- press conferences, public relations and job interviews
These meetings might be:
- One to one meetings
- One to many meetings (such as a presentation)
- Many to many meetings between two groups at two or more locations
Why should I use Video Conferencing?
Video conferencing is EASY TO USE and can substitute your actual presence at meetings. Video conferencing:
- reduces time you spend travelling
- reduces travel costs by reducing the need to travel
- reduces the stress of commuting
- helps reduce an organisation's carbon footprint
- gives a competitive edge, for example, interviewing international job candidates quickly and cheaply.
The CBI estimate that congestion costs UK industry £15-20 billion per year.
As the technology advances entry level systems are available for very accessible prices.
