People with Disabilities

Disability covers a wide range and severity of physical and mental impairments, each of which can make people with disabilities more vulnerable on our roads. People with disabilities are also included in the other vulnerable groups covered by this Plan.

We will endeavour to take account of the needs of people with disabilities in all road safety measures and initiatives which we implement, including the design and maintenance of the road network, in accordance with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Aberdeenshire Council will continue to :-

• consider the needs of people with disabilities in the design of new road safety schemes through safety auditing
• provide independent travel training and road safety education for people with disabilities through the Social Work service
