Recycling and Waste

Local environmental charity, Aberdeen Forward, is piloting a new garden waste recycling collection in several communities across Aberdeenshire as part of a new network of community composting sites.

Community composting involves a group of people setting up a shared composting system. The community provide the material for composting and benefit by having a way of disposing of their waste and access to free or low cost compost material for their gardens.

Benefits of this scheme are:

  • charity run green waste collection scheme
  • environmentally friendly service diverting waste from landfill
  • garden waste composted locally, helping to reduce global warming
  • kerbside collection every two weeks with a green waste bag supplied
  • access to locally produced compost
  • membership from £6 per year
