Your collection services explained

Check the date of your next collection and nearest recycling facilities

Aberdeenshire Council operates a fortnightly refuse collection (black/grey bin) alternating with a fortnightly recycling collection (blue lidded bin).  Food waste bins (small green bins) are collected every week, with either bin.  The food waste goes into a separate compartment on the lorry from the refuse or recycling.

Refuse

  • All waste must be contained inside your bin with the lid closed.
  • Please place the bin at the kerbside / your collection point no later than 7.00am on your collection day.
  • Aberdeenshire Council will only collect one refuse bin per household unless additional refuse capacity has been arranged.  Additional refuse bins can be issued to larger families or those with a medical need or similar circumstance.  Householders will need to demonstrate that they are recycling as much as possible, including food waste.  As many households can manage with one bin per fortnight if they are recycling everything, we normally give an extra recycling bin first to see if that solves the problem.  If necessary, we will conduct an audit of the contents of the refuse bin.  All information provided will be confidential.  Please call Wasteline for details.
  • Heavy bins - sometimes bins are too heavy for the loader to safely wheel to the lorry and empty.  These bins will not be emptied.  If this happens to you, please take the heavy items out and present your bin for emptying on your next collection.  Often bins are too heavy because of rubble, earth or stones; these can be recycled at Household Waste & Recycling Centres.
  • Partially emptied bins - sometimes waste gets stuck in bins and we can't fully empty them.  To avoid waste getting stuck in your bin, put heavier materials at the bottom and compact waste before putting it in the bin rather than squashing it down once inside.  Big bulky items such as polystyrene or duvets often cause the problem.

Assisted collections - refuse and recycling

Householders who find it difficult to put their wheeled bins out for collection can request an assisted collection service.

Assistance may be given when a householder has a chronic or acute medical condition (including pregnancy and first year after birth) or disability and where there is no other member of the household or other person who can put out containers for them.

Assisted collections can be short or long term, and will be reviewed at regular intervals.  Please contact the Wasteline for further details.
