Why only Glass Bottles and Jars?

Other types of glass, such as cookware, drinking glasses, window glass and so on should NOT be put in Recycling Containers or Kerbside Recycling Boxes.  These types of glass do not behave the same as the glass used in bottles and jars during reprocessing, so could lead to recycling loads being rejected.

What happens to Glass Bottles and Jars?

If you receive a kerbside collection, the collection crew colour-sort bottles and jars at the side of the vehicle and the different colours go into different compartments within the body of the vehicle.

The glass is sent to O-I (previously known as the British Glass Recycling Company) in Alloa.  It is crushed, cleaned and made back into new bottles and jars.
