Weekly Recycling Collection Trial

Hands sorting recyclingIn May 2009, 7,500 homes in Aberdeenshire started taking part in a trial weekly recycling collection. The new service is available to both urban and rural households.

Refuse collections remain fortnightly and no refuse collection days or weeks were changed. Recycling collections, however, take place the same day of the week, every week.

Your recycling collection day will have been given to you with your Weekly Recycling Trial information pack. If you have lost this information or did not receive it, please contact us. We will need your full address, including your post code, to advise you of your collection day. top of page

  • Aberchirder, Banff, Macduff and Whitehills (previously food waste trial area).
  • Portsoy (previously on fortnightly recycling collections).
  • Rural homes north and west of the River Deveron previously on a Yellow Monday/Tuesday four-weekly paper recycling route.

New or Replacement Bags and Containers for Weekly Recycling

Please put your address on your recycling containers to help make sure that they are returned to the correct address.

battery bag

For more pink battery bags or food waste kitchen caddy liner bags (free of charge), please ask the collection crew or just leave a note securely taped to your Recycling Box or Blue-Lidded Bin on collection day.

recycling box

For more Recycling Boxes, Paper Recycling Sacks or Food Waste Bins (free of charge), please contact us. These are too bulky for crews to carry spare sets in the collection vehicles.

You can also pick up containers and spare battery bags from certain Aberdeenshire Council premises if you would find this more convenient. Please note, the kitchen caddy liner bags will NOT be available at any of these sites. You need to ask your recycling collection crew or leave them a note for these bags. Because they are designed to degrade over time, it is not feasible for us to keep stocks of these at different locations. We will only supply you with bags that are new enough to last for likely domestic storage and use timescales.
